LET US GET BACK TO THE EARTH

Wow! It is a beautiful day on Laughing Water Farm. It is cool 18 F now, it was 15 when I went out earlier. The Sun is shining bright and it is calm. It feels much warmer than the temperature would indicate. We could use a little more snow; yet it is nice to be able to walk wherever I want. Usually, this time of year, I am restricted to a few paths as the snow is too deep. We are forecast to get 3 to 5 inches tomorrow, but there is no sign of that happening now.

We are looking forward to Spring. It is a little early, here in Minnesota, to look forward to Spring, but we can't help it. There are signs that Winter is waning. Jamie has her seeds ordered and we are planning to add more fruit trees and a berry patch. We have two pastures and we are planning to connect them and get more sheep.

The first warmish day I am going to take my shoes off and rub my feet in the earth. Winter is great, much of it is celebration and get-togethers with friends and relatives. About the middle of February, it begins to get old. Yet, here in Minnesota, we might have to endure Winter until sometime in April. It keeps one flexible.

I am looking forward to a new world where folks live closer to the Earth. Where we grow all our food locally, except for exotics, that can't grow in the area. Technology is great, but it needs to serve mankind, not enslave it. We don't need to poison ourselves when we eat a meal. The Earth is abundant it will give us all we need to eat without poisons. Food production can be a loving endeavor, accomplished by people dedicated to the task, it need not be done by folks who mine the soil in order to make wealth in terms of dollars.

What is the difference between the profit motive, as we see in our present world, and the need and desire to make a good living for yourself? The institutions that we depend on the most for our well being, food production, medicine and education have been ruined by the profit motive. When a human being is born on this Earth she/he is entitled, and should be guaranteed, good food, medical care and education. Isn't this obvious? How can we call ourselves civilized if only those who have money can procure any of these essentials? How can we say we are free and equal if we need to have money for education, food or medicine? How does that make sense?

People, who love each other, create societies, that provide the basic needs for all the citizens. We do love each other, don't we? Perhaps, each of us needs to ask that question. I imagine when we lived in tribes, we took care of each other and as we lived further and further from the Earth we lost that connection. We need to see ourselves as part of the natural process of the Earth. We need to understand our oneness with each other and our oneness with Nature. We neglect people who need assistance, because our society allows us to close our eyes, minds and hearts from each other. Could we look someone in the eyes and watch them starve, or suffer from lack of medical care, or needed education?  How did we become so separate that we would allow our fellow beings on the planet to suffer?

We are awakening. We are not going to allow it much longer. The old world is crumbling. Soon a new consciousness will be dominate. A tsunami of love is taking over.

In the meantime, look around, see who needs assistance. Let us not close our eyes and hearts any longer.

Love and Peace,  Gregg
