Are humans the only beings who can use their mind to separate themselves from Nature? It seems that our brain-mind, acting separately from our heart-mind, can. Are we the only creature on this planet who finds themselves at odds with Nature? Not only at odds-but at war? What is going on? Have you thought about this? I am sure you have.
Is this a byproduct of the development of the ego? Perhaps, it seems likely. If this is an error, how do we correct it?
At every level we divide and separate. Our very being is divided between body and spirit. Life is endless. There is energy activating or animating all life forms. When the animation or activation ends, we see it as dead, whether it be plant or animal. Yet the activation in the body may speed up. Whether it be, a tree or an animal, the activity at an atomic and cellular level goes into high gear transforming the body into various substances. Doesn't sound dead to me. Is there such a thing as death or is that something made up by our mind?
We want to know who we are. When asking this question, we often begin with a split at the very beginning, by defining ourselves as body and spirit. Over the last several thousand years, we have so lost touch with Nature, we can't ask that question and expect an answer. How can we acknowledge we are both body and spirit without creating a split?
To heal the split, I think, we need to see everything as alive. Think in terms of energy. Everything is energy. Energy is always in motion. Whether it be a rock, a tree, a squirrel or me. Everything is energy. Is energy consciousness? Are energy and consciousness the same? We think of consciousness as Love. We think of the energy that activates the Universe as Love. According to that line of thinking, everything has consciousness. We don't need to get ahead of ourselves or answer these questions tomorrow.
BUT WE DO NEED TO BEGIN HEALING THE SPLIT. We need to end the war with our own bodies. We need to end the war with Nature. We need to understand that Oneness means Oneness- no more splits.
Our brain-mind has led us to the destruction of everything we love. Using pseudo-science we are on the verge of destroying the planet. We do not have decent food. Our environment is contaminated with a myriad of toxic substances. We are in a rush to exterminate many animal and vegetable species. Our investigations and solutions, offered for these problems, are just more pseudo-science. If it doesn't make somebody more wealthy or powerful, it doesn't happen. Doesn't it ever occur to anybody, that we can just stop it!
Do we need a complete economic collapse to start fresh? Maybe that needs to happen. But maybe not. What if all of us, who have just a glimmer of understanding of this problem, decided to end our war with Nature? What if we began to see, all of Nature as embodied by spirit, as we think we are? What if we were to begin revering the Earth as a loving entity? A loving entity that has cared for us and loved us. We might be able to create enough energy to override those who are only interested in exploiting the Earth.
I know the healing will take place. I can imagine a time, when folks in these temperate climes, will spend two or three weekends every Summer living outside in their yard. It can be agreed upon holidays for everyone. Everyone stays outside. Cooks outside. Sleeps outside. Perhaps a tent, in case of rain. It would be a celebration where neighbors would all join in. It would be a celebration of love for the Earth. Large cities may not have the green space for everybody to be outside, but much can be done in this direction. Future cities should be built with the idea that everyone need to spend some days outdoors. They wouldn't have to do it all at once.
Let us be aware that everything is alive. Everything is Love. We are not separate from the ground we walk on. We are not separate from the grass, the trees, the animals, the insects, [although, I would like to be more separate from the mosquitoes]. I know in my heart, that if we looked at all creatures with love, we would see a way to live with mosquitoes that would be mutually beneficial. There is probably a simple solution. When we emerge ourselves in Nature and know our place in it, we will see things we can't see now.
Happy Friday!
Love and Peace, Gregg
