DEATH

Death, along with its macabre companion damnation, are the two colossal lies that have been used to manipulate the innocent and allow the church and state to keep a heavy foot of domination on the populace.

I know this is not a very lighthearted subject, but a discussion of it might lead us to be more lighthearted. All the great ones have told us, there is no death. They have taught that our bodies are only temporary structures. That we are spirit [energy] in our permanent state and death can have no meaning. Yet despite this teaching that has echoed down the centuries, the religions of the world have used death and damnation to control people, rather than free them.

Imprinting the idea, that we will may burn in hell for eternity, on a small child's mind is very heavy indeed. As we grow and can reason we realize that God can not be both loving and evil. We see clearly that the idea of hell can come from only an evil mind. Could god be evil?

We grow up and we resolve or bury this conundrum. Still it haunts us. We don't have much help in overcoming our fear of death. In the meantime, the exploiters make huge amounts of money because of peoples fear of death. Look at the insurance industry. How about the pharmaceutical industry? How many folks are taking unnecessary drugs because they and their doctors are afraid of death? How many people are on ventilators holding on to a life that won't return?

And wow! Look at the churches. How many of the faithful fork over scads of money in order to protect themselves from damnation?

Fear is the vehicle that carries all the negativity that we experience. It was with fear that we created the illusion that now has many of us imprisoned. As we give up fear the illusion dissolves and we see the love that has always surrounded us.

Death and damnation are the two monsters that lie hidden in our unconscious. Even if we grow up in a family that has eschewed religion, we absorb some of this dread from the culture. Each one of us needs to look at ourselves and ask the question, "Do either of these fears motivate me or shape my thoughts or feelings?"

On an intellectual level it is fairly easy to resolve the damnation issue. There is no sane argument for a god that would punish. Why would a sane person look up to one who would threaten to hurt them if they did not behave in a certain way? That would be demonic, not godly. The emotional issue takes attention to ones underlying feelings. We can settle in our minds that the issue of damnation is preposterous, then look at the fear with eyes of love, it will dissolve. It is  the small child in us that is afraid. Take the child in your loving arms and cuddle it and reassure it that it is loved unconditionally.

Death is more interesting. It is going to happen. We can't stop it. It comes closer every minute. When I was in my thirties I had an experience where I saw [or experienced] life like a fall from a tall building. The ground that was coming up to me was death. The only difference between life and a fall from a tall building was time. It was a scary experience fraught with a high level of anxiety. It was my first step in getting over the fear of death.

Since then I have looked at the idea of death frequently. When I was introduced to the idea of reincarnation, I imagined all the ways I might have met my demise. In order to feel free to live I needed to feel free of the fear of death. I now have the advantage of being almost 79. When a person lives that long on this planet they generally resolve the issue of death.  I know I will leave when I am ready, in the meantime, I hope to live every minute.

If we were convinced we live forever much of the sting of death would be gone. Most of us who are aware of our spiritual journey have become convinced that death is just a transition and nothing to fear. Through meditation, contemplation etc. we have come to the conclusion that death of the body is not the end of life. And all of our great teachers have reassured us that is so.

However, our culture hasn't been much help. We have limited our knowledge to only what we could touch, see, hear and smell. Our science has relegated intuition to superstition. If we can't prove it with our crippled science it doesn't exist. Outside of that limited structure there is amble evidence that life after death exist. Science is on the verge of proving it. Quantum physics has broken new ground. It won't be long before these mysteries will be explored.

Our fear of death has resulted in an unimaginable financial cost. Many people take crippling medications that make their life less enjoyable out of fear of this unknown. We have been horribly manipulated and exploited because of this fear.

We are waking up and throwing off the shackles that come with the fear of death. We can help ourselves and help each other get over the last vestiges of this fear.

The solution, as always is love, there can be no fear in love. We live in a loving universe. We are on a journey through love to Love. It is only the illusion, we created with fear, that says otherwise.

Have confidence the old crazy world is fading away and the new one is emerging. Love is everything. Nothing can stand against it.

Live, love and listen to your heart.

Love and Peace,  Gregg
