Our lovely Spring is taking a hiatus.
There is snow in the forecast. They scared me last night. They
forecast 2 to 3 inches of snow on three progressive periods, tonight,
tomorrow and tomorrow night; that is a possibility of 9 inches. Now
there back, to what they predicted, day before yesterday, which is
less than a half inch each time. I think the system is very dynamic
and hard to predict. I hope the latest prediction bears out.
It seems that one of the primary
focuses of a healing/learning center, needs to be, on our physical and
mental health. With all of our, up-to-date technology and knowledge,
we would think we would be a very healthy people. Instead we are
plagued with chronic diseases and beset by one infliction after
another. One of the problems is environmental. We live on extensions,
away from Nature, and we have polluted our air, water and ground, to
the point, where ingesting chemically free food is next to
impossible. I will address that subject later. Today, I will limit
myself to a few aspects of medicine.
Have you ever listened to TV from 5 PM
to 6 PM? I noted three, sometimes four, drug commercials during each
station break. They all featured upper middle class types that were
active and apparently successful. If you wanted to join their group
all that you had to do was to urge your doctor to proscribe some
drug. I recently read that drug companies spend a vast amount more money on
promotion, including advertising and lobbying, than they do on
research and development.
Have you paid attention to the possible
side effects? It is amazing our minds have been able to soak in the advertising message and not be horrified by the side effects. Almost,
perhaps all, these drugs are synthetic. They are chemical
compositions copying a naturally occurring agent. Have we ever
stopped and asked ourselves, “Do we really have the wisdom to do
this?' Our ability to manipulate our world far outstrips our ability
to understand it. “Do we really think we know enough about our body
and minds, that we can introduce foreign substances and expect no
negative results?” We are just on the threshold of understanding
and appreciating the majesty of our minds and bodies.
Perhaps, if we had a magic button, that
we could press, and take the profit motive out of medicine we would
see things differently. Money is a hugely corrupting force. Doctors,
whether they like it, or not, become corporate entities and shills
for the pharmaceutical industry. It is tragic. Every doctor, I know,
wants to be a healer. Most of them, would love to spend time with
their patients, get to know them and be able to treat the person and
not just the wart.
The healing arts are, just that. They
are intuitive as well as scientific. Healing is most effective when
the practitioner has an appreciation of the mind and body as one.
Every time we have a thought; we have some change in brain chemistry.
Every time we have a change in brain chemistry; we affect some body
systems. And, of course, the reverse is true.
So much of our drug use has been
primarily profit motivated. I don't know that we need to eschew all
synthetic drugs. We do need to take another look at what we have
done. We do need to take the corruption of money, out of medicine and
science, before we can see clearly to go forward.
So many of these change have to await
the the collapse of the present system. Wouldn't it be nice if a
collection of healers could come together, create a pilot project,
and offer healing to their respective community at an affordable
cost [perhaps a freewill offering]? Patients could show their
appreciation by working in the organic gardens.
Wouldn't it be nice to be
intellectually, emotionally and spiritually free enough, to explore
our universe, and see what is there? Who are we? How are our bodies
part of the Earth and Mother Nature? How are our minds and souls part
of the Universe? Wouldn't this be an exciting adventure?
Love and Peace, Gregg
