MERRY CHRISTMAS

Well it is a few minutes after Noon and I am writing my first sentence. I have been preoccupied. Let me explain. Our front door latch has been giving us trouble, off and on, since we installed it; a long time ago [15-20 years?]. The door would be absolutely immobile, as if it was frozen. I learned that if I pushed the door, I would hear a very faint click and the door would open. It didn't happen often enough to run up to the hardware store to buy a new mechanism.

The last three days it was making strange noises when the door closed and there was some resistance. It was difficult to determine that the noise was coming from the latch. This Morning Jamie was going shopping and she said she would pick up a new door latch. I said, “I fixed it, I was fooling with it last night and I heard a click and it worked just fine.” I tried it this Morning and it still worked fine. Well, I attempted to open it when I came back from the chores and it wouldn't open. I called to Jamie. We tried various strategies, with her on the inside and me on the outside. Nothing. She had to go out the back door and around the house to get to the garage. I told her I would have the door open for her when she got back.

I figured I would have to take the whole mechanism off. I decided I would blog first and get it done before she got home. I must have got up and down from my chair three or four times. I would sit down, in front of the computer, but nothing would come to me. I would sit for a half hour, but the only thing in my mind was fixing that latch.

Finally, I decided I would dismantle the latch. The door handles came off easy, just two screws and I could take the inside one off and push out the other. Okay, I am looking at the internal mechanism. There must be away of sliding that, what would you call it, that wedge shaped piece that latches the door, out of the socket. I tried a variety of tools and found no way of retracting it. I resorted to using a pliers to bend the visible part and pull it out. I then could use a long nosed pliers to pull out that wedged shape nubbin. I could open the door. Good news, it is not too cold. Amazing amount of air flows through that two inch round hole.

Jamie just got home; she came with a door latch as well as a pile of other stuff.

Life happens! It comes to us every day. We like to predict it, but, perhaps it is best, if we do not contemplate the future, but live only in the day,

It is Christmas Time! It is time to celebrate! Let us give up our concern for the future. We don't know anything. What seems awful right now could be perfect. We don't know. We do know, we can be happy in this moment. We do know that when our minds are clear and joyous, everything looks better. Trust, that things will turn out, just the way they need to, and it will be good.

I know, I know, it is not easy to have a light heart and joyous spirit, when all about us seems to be such chaos and negativity. But hey! Haven't we discussed, that we shape our world with our perception? That we see according to our thoughts? We don't have to buy into the, everything is awful, scenario. Let us see beauty; let us see love; let us see awakening; everything is going to be just fine.

Have a great Holiday Season! Celebrate!

Merry Christmas!

Love and Peace, Gregg
