PEACE OF MIND

There is a glimmer of  Sun off and on. We didn't get all the snow this week that was forecast. Things are looking up. Perhaps, Spring is here to stay.

Peace of mind. Doesn't that sound nice? We know that love and joy come from peace. Yet, sometimes our minds are like a busy street. Thoughts flying back and forth. Worry bugs germinating in the corners. Despite our best intentions, we find ourselves perseverating about some nonsense. Will it get better? When we are in the midst of one of these episodes it seems like it is hopeless. Are we always going to be a victim of an errant mind?

It is getting better. Control of the mind doesn't come overnight. Perhaps calling it control is an error. Peace seems to come from giving up control. Most the thoughts we struggle with come from attempting to control. Letting go is the answer. Letting go of the thoughts that trouble us brings us the quiet we want.

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, these are difficult times and they are marvelous times. When we are on the verge of breaking through to a new level of consciousness our egos will work overtime to defeat us. Our egos are like spoiled obnoxious children who are terrified of losing their power. They will glam onto any little fear thought and invite us to indulge in it.

Yet they are marvelous times. When our minds are at peace, we begin to see a wondrous world around us.

When we go through these struggles in our mind, we can sit down for a meditation period, as our minds quiet we can talk to ourselves, reassure that terrified part of us [ego] that it won't die. We can tell our ego that it doesn't need to have the job of controlling things anymore. We have given ourselves over to a higher consciousness [spirit]. Our ego can always have value in knowing our uniqueness but it doesn't need to defend our separateness. There is no danger to defend us from and we are One.

We will get better and better at catching ourselves when we are paying too much attention to a run-a-way mind and we will be able to snap it back to the Now.

The more we discover the peace in our own being, the more we can extend it to the world.

Love and Peace,  Gregg
